A Versatile, Economical Tape for Industrial Applications
With a nominal thickness of 3.3 mils, our 3M™ Double Coated Tape 9817M is a general-purpose industrial tape that features two different adhesives for a range of low surface energy and high surface energy substrates. Its face side adhesive is an acrylic PSA which provides quick stick and long term adhesion to challenging surfaces. The liner side features an aggressive rubber-based adhesive that forms an immediate bond to most open cell urethane and closed cell urethane foams, polyester, polyester urethane, polyethylene, polystyrene, vinyl foams and most rubbers. A white polyester film carrier adds dimensional stability, and provides easier handling. The 74-lb. densified kraft paper liner adds dimensional strength for effective slitting and rotary die-cutting, and protects against humidity during storage.

3M™ Double Coated Tape 9817M has been tested for heat resistance from 175ºF/80ºC for short periods, and 120ºF/49ºC long term.

What is Double Coated Tape?
In general, double coated tape is composed of a paper, film, or tissue carrier that is coated on both sides with pressure sensitive adhesive. The adhesive is protected by a peel-away liner that is removed at the time of application. These tapes can be applied by hand or with a dispenser. Double coated tape dispensers are available in a variety of configurations ranging from manual to fully automatic. Applications for double coated tape are found in electronics, automotive, aerospace, general industrial and fabrication markets.
