It is designed for masking around flush mount windshields and back glass, side moldings, inset door handles and tail light assemblies, as well as sidelight and headlight units. The film backing features perforations which do not weaken the tape during masking, but allow technicians to tear the tape by hand, reducing the hassle of finding and using cutting tools.

3M™ Perforated Trim Masking Tape features a hard band along its edge that slips quickly and easily between trim moldings and auto body surfaces. The bands are available in multiple widths for a versatile range of vehicle masking jobs. A strong polymeric film backing stays strong as the molding is lifted, and provides a reliable mask that keeps the molding exterior free of paint spray. A translucent liner on the adhesive side of the tape removes easily in one piece for precise placement.

As technicians spray over the masking, the paint flows into the small gaps between the moldings and the paint surface. When the masking tape is removed, the moldings simply drop back on top of the fresh paint ? no visible paint edges, and no need to spend extra time removing paint lines from trim after painting.
