Cuts Fast, Leaves Fine Finishes
Our Standard Abrasives™ Surface Conditioning Band helps reduce the surface roughness and uneven edges that result when joining parts, as well as condition coated abrasive grind lines. It’s a valuable abrasive product for industries and trades where welding and fusing are a common occurrence, such as automotive, aerospace, aircraft equipment and appliance manufactures, foundries, mold and die shops and metal fabricators. The RC material exhibits a high-cut rate while maintaining a consistent finish. Because it’s able to perform dual feats, cutting fast and leaving a fine finish, the abrasive helps reduce the number of finishing steps and save time.
Benefits of Open Web Abrasives
Surface Conditioning products have a woven fabric (scrim) embedded in the nylon structure to provide additional strength and durability for edge work, deburring and efficient blending of all metal types. The Standard Abrasivesâ„¢ Surface Conditioning Band has nonwoven nylon web filled with aluminum oxide mineral. The resin bond that holds the fibers and mineral together helps enhance abrasive durability. Aluminum oxide mineral cuts sharp and is friable, fragmenting under heat and pressure to reveal sharp cutting edges, so you get a consistent cut throughout the life of the abrasive.
Gaps between the nonwoven nylon fibers allow swarf and debris to escape, so the abrasive does not get clogged with buildup and keeps cutting sharper for longer. Moreover, the nylon fibers are buoyant and responsive, so you get a consistent cut without gouging or marring the workpiece. Given that maintaining part geometry – especially on fabricated steel parts – is often a top concern, the band’s ability to conform to the substrate without compromising part geometry is key. It helps minimize the need for rework.
Finish Hard-To-Reach Areas
The Surface Conditioning Band is intended for use with a rubber drum (sold separately). For a tight, snug fit, and to ensure the band does not skid or bump along the surface of the workpiece, it’s important for the band and drum to have the same nominal diameter. The shank on the drum attaches to a die grinder or rotary tool. The abrasive comes in a range of sizes to match your unique project needs. One of the greatest benefits of this band is that it can be brought directly to the workpiece, working in areas that belts may not be able to access. Â
Overall, our Standard Abrasivesâ„¢ Surface Conditioning Band is a good abrasive to have on hand when joining or fusing parts. It can help you tackle the tough and hard-to-reach areas, so your part has a fine finish through and through.
